Commercial Banking Center and Office Addition | Springfield, IL
The Bank of Springfield (BOS) maintains its headquarters in a handsome office building originally built on Springfield’s west in 1998. BOS retained MMLP to expand the facilities, resulting in a sensitive, organically crafted expansion that melds seamlessly with the original buff brick, two-story building.
The entire headquarters now totals 35,000 gross square feet, with the MMLP addition adding 22,000 square feet, more than doubling the capacity of the original 15-year-old 13,000 sf structure. The addition boasts a prominent Second Floor corner Conference Room; a transparent rectangle facing the southwest corner of the active Wabash Avenue thoroughfare – gathering western sunsets and modulating sunlight through the meeting space to the building interiors.
The new expansion solved a persistent image challenge by creating a prominent, arching glass entry canopy – visually centering the building façade and emphatically demarking the main entrance and providing an edge-lit curved highlight during evening hours. MMLP worked with BOS’ landscape designer to nestle and soften the buildings rectilinear form into free-flowing native grasses and naturalistic green spaces and planting beds.
The 24/7 headquarters Computer Center was successfully upgraded and moved without incident or loss of service.
All environmental systems were replaced without a disruption in service and customers and employees were minimally inconvenienced.
